Wakefield girl wins DAR Essay Contest
Brenda Pretzer, Wakefield, won the good citizenship award at the annual Wayne DAR chapter essay contest.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pretzer, Wakefield.


To win the local contest, Brenda wrote on the subject, "Do we meet the challenge of good citizenship by holding fast to the privileges of the Constitution?"

She then wrote a second essay which will be entered in the state contest at Norfolk. The state winner will receive a $100 bond.

The subject of the second essay was "Is the preservation of the Constitution with its Bill of Rights mandatory in this era and does it hold fast to that which is good?"

Competing with Brenda in the Wayne competition were Jerilyn Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine Thompson, Winside, and Ann Marie Hasebroock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hasebroock, Wayne.
