Students share their views on one-room schools

Country schools hold lots of memories for lots of people. Scattered throughout the country, the serve the important purpose of providing an education to many young people in rural areas. Because of a declining number of rural children, some country schools have closed and others may close in the future. The ones that close will be missed by many people. The majority of student's in Wayne's one-room schools said they enjoy country school and are glad they attend them.

Here are some of the comments the students had:

LeAnn Biermann, 8th grade: "I have really enjoyed country school. When I was younger, I learned from the older students.
Being the only one in my grade makes things easier but it will be hard getting used to having lots of students in high school. I
think you get to know the students better in country school."

Bowdie Otte, 8th grade: "School is fun and I liked being in the Christmas program. Country school has almost as much as town
school. But, we do not have all the sports and we can't do many science experiments."

Jessica Cutshall, 2nd grade: "I like country school but I would rather have more students. I wish there was someone else in
my class."
