January 14, 1965 — New language plus other studies face new pupils
How do you think a Wayne kindergarten pupil and second grade pupil would do if they were suddenly flown to India and started classes at once in a school where only Hindi was spoken? Would it be difficult? The above is not likely to happen but the reverse has - two children who were in school in New Delhi, India, last month are now in elementary school in Wayne. They have no knowledge of the English language but are learning fast. Bodh Raj Gulati is
a WSC math teacher, coming here last fall. Dec. 11 he flew to New Delhi from Ney York, spent two weeks there and returned with his wife, Santosh, and two children Dec. 30. They arrived in Wayne Jan 4. and the children were enrolled at the northeast elementary school. Anita, 7,is in the second grade. Her brother, Sunil, 5, is in kindergarten. Mrs. Gulati is working on her master's degree in evening graduate courses. Her husband, who received master's degrees
at both Punjab U. in India and Illinois U. He is doing graduate work on his PhD at the University of Nebraska.
