County wide crop damage is estimated at $10 million

Damage ranging from as little as five percent to 100 percent was reported by local and federal officials as the result of the hail and wind storm which came through the area Monday morning.

Over 100,000 acres in Wayne County were devastated by the hail.

Reports of heavy damage continued to flood insurance and government offices on Tuesday.

Local insurance agents report adjusters will begin their job sometime next week.

Most of the damage reported is the result of golf ball size hail that hit a 22 miles long strip in Wayne County.

Damage has been estimated at $10 million in market costs for the crops alone.

Several other counties in the area also report heavy damage to crops and property.
