Nearly 4,000 people enjoy Winside Old Settlers picnic

The weather was perfect and the public took advantage of it at Winside's Old Settlers picnic as nearly 4,000 people turned out for the full day of events.

Oldest settlers to register were Mrs. Dora Bleich and her twin sister, Mrs. Elsie Koch, and Walter Gaebler. The twins are 85
and Gaebler is 94. All are from Winside.

Winners in the two divisions of the Children's Parade were:
First division: Bradley Robers, Joe and Shauna Kenny, first; Stephan Carlson, second and Dean and Darci Janke, third.

Second Division: Gaylen Carstens, first; Rickey Barner, second and Peggy Barner, third.

Winside won over Carroll 6-2 in the Little Midgets game. Winning pitcher was Reed Wacker.

The Winside Big Midgets lost to Pilger, 6-1, with Randy Miller and Bob Dangberg pitching.
