WSC, Hahn classes "Hitting the road"

These are the traveling days for Wayne State and Hahn School classes.

Friday, the college physical sciences class visited the atomic medical research facilities of the Omaha Veterans Administration hospital and the nuclear power plant at Hallam.

In the medical laboratories at Omaha, the students saw numerous elaborate computers and other devices being used in research against disease. Cancer being one of the chief targets.

At Hallam, they learned something of the features that distinguish a conventional power plant from the Sheldon nuclear plant, the first of its kind operating in the U.S.

Monday, the Hahn fourth graders toured Sioux City, visiting a bakery, dairy, fire station and bottling plant. Occasional rain did little to squelch their enthusiasm. Today, the Hahn second grade and kindergarten class are scheduled for a trip to Lewis and Clark Lake, with a boat ride as one of the main activities. The second graders, who have been studying transportation, thus will enjoy two phases of travel- bus and boat- as the climax of their book learning.
