Four locals win medals

The four TMR students who represented the Wayne Middle School at the Nebraska Special Olympics May 22 all earned medals.

Competing at Omaha's Creighton University, Rodney Bauermeister, Kali Jo Corbit, Rick Kenny and Tami Hartmann brought home two medals each.

Rodney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Bauermeister of Wayne, won the softball throw and 30-meter dash.

Tami, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Hartmann of Winside, won the softball throw and placed fourth in the 200-meter run.

Kali Jo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Corbit of Wayne, placed third in the 50-meter dash and the softball throw.

Rick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Kenny of Carroll, took second in the 50-meter dash and sixth in the standing long jump.

Gertrude Vahlkamp coached the TMR students and Joni Sitzman was assistant.
