Luigi, Inc. concert tops Jazz Festival at Wayne State
A concert by Omaha jazzmaster Luigi Waites and his group, Luigi, Inc., will highlight a jazz clinic and concert at Wayne State College (WSC) on Saturday, March 20.
The Wayne State College music department's student organizations, Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and MENC student chapter, along with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council, are bringing Luigi, Inc. to Wayne State for the one-day jazz experience.
The clinic wil get underway on March 20 at 1 p.m.
All jazz fans and musicians are encouraged to take part, including music directors and music students.
Clinics for brass, woodwind, percussionist, and guitar players are featured with all participants except percussionists asked to bring their own instruments.
The clinics will conclude around 5 p.m.
A concert featuring Luigi, Inc. will follow at 8 p.m. in the Val Peterson Fine Arts Center on the WSC campus.
Luigi, Inc., has crisscrossed the state on the Nebraska Arts Council Touring program for the past several years. The combo was recently named "Omaha's Best Jazz" by "Omaha Magazine."
With over 25 years experience, Luigi Waites has played for every kind of audience imaginable. His music ranges from Ellington to Weather Report and Dixieland to Fusion.
Luigi, Inc., includes Waites on percussion and vibraphone; Charles Gamble, who guested with the popular group "Tower of Power," on drums; bassist Marvin Smith, a graduate of Kearney State College; Rick Brown on trombone and flute; and Rich Cornell, on flute and saxaphone.
Genberal admission to the clinic and concert is $3. A high school rate of $1.50 for groups with a minimum of five has also been established.
The program was made possible with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
