Local girl goes to State Spelling Bee

Judy Simmer, daughter of Rev .and Mrs. William C. Simmer, has been named to represent Wayne High at Girl's State at Lincoln in June.

Judy was the 1960 Wayne County Spelling Champion and is active in the Wayne High music department. The past two years she has received a superior rating at the District Music Contest as a bassoon soloist.

She also plays in the WSTC orchestra, is a member of the student council, was a delegate to the Governor's Conference on Youth in 1962, sings in the Methodist Church Choir and is secretary of the MYF.

Shirley Nissen, daughter of Mrs. Lars Niessen, Wayne was named alternate.

The event is sponsored by the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and the Women's club.
