Speech team is runner-up
Thew Wayne High School Blue Devil Speech Team won runner-up honors at the District meet held in Pierce on March 11.
Those qualifying for the state meet in Kearney on Thursday, March 22 include:
Jessica Agler, district champion in Humorous Prose; Mark Finn, second place in Extemporaneous; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Faith Kroeker, Mark Finn, Frank Holm, Emily Kinney and Jessica Agler.
Emily Kinney and Jeff Meyer, third place in duet acting; and Faith Kroeker, third in Humorous Prose.
Placing at the competition but not qualifying for the state tournament were Frank Holm, sixth place in Serious Prose; Charity Kroeker, fifth place in Poetry and Emily Brady, fourth place in Poetry.
Other Wayne High School students making up the team on Monday were Brady Garvin, Informative and Extemporaneous; Chad Jensen, Entertainment; Katie Osten, Entertainment; Ann Temme, Persuasive and Informative; Jodi Stowater, Persuasive; Heather Stauffer, Serious Prose.
The team is coached by Dwaine Spieker, assisted by Amy Jackson.
