Wayne Hosts Farm Association Meet
The annual Northeast Nebraska Experimental Farm Association meeting was held Tuesday at the Wayne City Auditorium. The allday meeting drew about 120 men, area farmers, staff members at the University of Nebraska Northeast Station in Concord and board
members representing the 13 counties in Northeast Nebraska.
Don Arduser of Coleridge, association president, conducted the introduction, which was followed by talks on "Corn Row Spacing and Plant Population" and "Corn in Alfalfa Sod-Chemicals," by Northeast Station area agronomists George Rehm and Russell Moomaw, both of Wayne.
Area Extension Engineer Wayne Fisher discussed "New Type Terraces" and Harold George, Dixon County farmer, spoke on the farmer's reaction to minimum tillage. The morning session was concluded with a talk on University Support in Crop Production by Donald Hanway, chairman of the Agronomy Department, College of Agriculture Department, College of Agriculture, Lincoln.
Following a break for lunch, Glann Kruescher, director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture at Lincoln, spoke on "Nebraska's Agricultural Challenge." John Kroger Jr., of Rosalie, treasurer of the association, followed with a review of the founding of the Northeast Station in Concord. Robert Fritschen, swine specialist and Walter
Tolman, beef specialist, both from the station, spoke on "The Place of Confinement in Swine Production in Northeast Nebraska" and "Storing and Feeding High Moisture Corn." The meeting adjourned following progress reports by Cal Ward, station superintendent.
