March 29, 1994 — Speech team continues winning ways

Members of the Wayne High School speech team returned from the state tournament with a third place finish and three individual state champions. The event was held Friday on the UNL campus in Lincoln. Titles were won by Claire Rasmussen, a senior, in extemporaneous
speaking and the team of Matt Chapman, junior and Kerry McCue, senior, in duet acting. No team in the state competition had more than two state champion events and all six members of the Wayne team to qualify for the sate tournament earned placing. Besides the titles, points toward the Wayne total of 92 were scored by Robb Heier, a junior, with a fifth place finish in entertainment; Tim Heinemann, a junior, with a sixth place in humourous prose and Liz Lindau, a freshman with a seventh place finish in poetry reading. Wayne finished behind Gretna, which won the state title with 112 points and Raymond-Central, which finished with 96 points.
