May 13, 1965 — Several million dollars worth of construction set for Wayne

Wayne is seeing a construction boom the like of which it has not seen in years. Several million dollars in public, commercial and private construction is set for this year. The biggest project site is the Wayne State College campus where four major projects are in various stages of progress. Biggest of all is the 440-room nine-story dormitory which is in the "below ground" phase at the present. Also at Wayne State an addition has started on the student center, the
addition to Rice gymnasium which includes a swimming pool is nearing completion and the new fine arts building is almost done. In the commercial field, McDonalds new department store will be bigger because an addition is being built onto the building, taking it back to the alley. Contracts hae been let for a new "station of tomorrow" for Merchant Oil Co. at Seventh and Main.
