This fundraiser is going to pot(-tery)

For several months, Natalie Endicott and Diana Smith of Moments Artist's Boutique have been working with students at Wayne Elementary School and Wayne Middle School to create pieces of pottery as part of a fundraiser for the new elementary school playground equipment.

A total of 21 pieces, one for each class of students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade, have been completed and will be on display and part of a silent auction at the Elementary School's final concert on May 10.

The items, ranging from cake plates to bowls, deviled egg containers to honey pots, will be on display at the high school gym from 6-9 p.m. on May 10 and bidding will close at 9 p.m., following the 7 p.m. concert.

Moments donated the glaze for the projects and the time to complete the pieces and the school purchased the bisqueware.

All the pieces are functional and food safe.

One of the pieces which will be up for auction is fashioned in a music theme and contains the first portion of "Three Cheers." Another is a patriotic ribbon plate, while one centers around corn. In all cases, the students were involved in the decision-making with the creations and each is personalized to represent the 2011-2012 classes at the school.

The pieces are currently on display in the window at Moments
Artist's Boutique, 217 Main Street in Wayne.
