From the Nov. 1, 2001 edition of The Wayne Herald:

Nebraska State Treasurer Lorlee Byrd moved her office to Wayne for the day last Thursday.

Byrd and her staff were at the Wayne County Courthouse visiting with the public, answering questions and becoming acquainted with residents.

Numerous people took advantage of the opportunity to visit with Ms. Byrd and her staff. While in Wayne, 15 individuals, businesses and organizations were able to claim just over $1,400 in unclaimed property with the assistance of the state treasurer.

During her visit with members of the Wayne Ambassadors, Mr. Byrd gave praise to Wayne State College senior Jim Hervert. Hervert, a senior majoring in accounting and finance, interned this summer with the State Treasurer's office. Hervert was also able to sit in on meetings involving child support issues during his internship.

Ms. Byrd has been the State Treasurer for just over one month, replacing Dave Heinemann. Prior to that, she had been Deputy Treasurer for seven years.
