Prancin' and Dancin' Wayne High Band among best
Wayne High School band members pranced their way to the highest rating possible in Saturday's Nebraska High School Marching Band Festival at Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln.
"We think we've got a first class band and now we've proved it," Ron Dalton, band director, said.
The 70-member group earned one's from all three judges in the contest in spite of one mistake in their seven-minute routine.
The mistake came when the applause from the capacity crowd drowned out the drum major's signal and all band members did not rise from a crouching position on cue, Dalton said. Still, the judges considered the band's routine good enough to rate the top mark, he said.
Wayne's band was made up of 64 band members, five twirlers and one drum major.
Wayne competed against such schools as Ord, Crete, Central City and Gothenburg.
