November 25, 2004 — Ribbon cutting of new walking trail is held
Ribbon cutting of the new walking trail in Wayne was held Nov. 19. The first phase of the project runs from Henry Victor Park on South Main Street, under the bridge over Logan Creek and along the east side of Wayne up to Wayne State College. Looking back, the city counil received $487,000 in federal gas tax funds through the Enhancement Programof the Nebraska Department of Roads (Trail program) and $59,000 from the Lower Elkhorn National Resources District for the trail. According to Jim Pearson of the Nebraska Department of Roads and program administrator for several federal programs (the Transportation Enhancement Program is one of them), the city of Wayne will receive another $500,000 for Phase II of the walking trail project. When the project is finished, the trail will encircle the city.
