November 29, 1984 — WSC grid program travels the distance in 1984 season

The distance travelled by the Wayne State College football team from it's 1983 season of 1-9 to its 1984 finish of 7-4 can be measured by much more than just games won and lost.

"A lot ofpeople became accustomed to us winning once we started to," said head coach Pete Chapman. "I don't think people knew the distance that the kids had come and what they had to do to get there."

The Wildcats, in their second season under the guidance of Coach Chapman and his staff, posted the first winning record for the grid program along with the highest finish in the Central States Intercollegiate conference since 1977.
