'Mac' inducted into Hall of Fame
Everyone around the Wayne area involved with sports has heard of or knows Harold "Mac" Maciejewski and his accomplish-ments coaching at Wayne High School. But how many of those people know that Maciejewski was a star football player at Henderson State University (then Henderson State Teachers College) in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and signed contracts in the 1940's to play with two professional football teams. Maciejewski, who just turned 83 last month, will be inducted into the Reddie Hall of Honor at Henderson State University this weekend with a ceremony scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
Maciejewski said he is thankful for the good fortune he has had in his lifetime and gives credit to his success to Henderson State.
"Henderson gave me my start in life, they gave me a great education." Maciejewski was born and raised on a farm outside of Loup City. He earned many high school honors and graduated from Loup City High School in 1938. He was then awarded a full ride football scholarship to Henderson State, where he lettered all four years in football as a guard. After college, he stayed in Loup until 1952, until he moved to Wayne where he was with Wayne schools for 31 years.
His football record was 76-44-7 with several conference championships. His basketball teams won eight Eat/West Husker Conference Championships. His record was 246-81. Mac also coached Wayne to its first boys state gold championship in 1985. Maciejewski still lives in Wayne with his wife, Lavah. When notifying Maciejewski of his nomination to the Henderson State Hall of Fame, Athletic Director Sam Goodwin stated in a letter that Mac would have three to four feet of display space for pictures, scrapbooks, awards and jackets.
