October 3, 1964 — Diamond Anniversary for Wakefield Church Sunday

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wakefield, will observe its 75th anniversary with special services Sunday, Oct. 4. Rev. W. Gerdes will be speaker at the 10:30 a.m. services. The afternoon service begins at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. Kieck speaker. A dinner is planned at noon and coffee and cookies will be served following the afternoon service. The church, often called La Porte church because of its proximity to the site of the early county seat, was organized in 1889.
In 1887 Lutheran families of the neighborhood banded together for services. Rev. H. Wehking conducted the meetings in the public school opposite the present church site. Wehking then served the Logan congregation north of Wakefield.
