September 16, 2004 —Wayne "fits" new principal

Mark Hanson likes the feel of Wayne and the surrounding area. The new principal at Wayne High School said the size of the community, mixed with the importance of agriculture in the area, is "just right." A native of Ashland, Hanson got his bachelor's degree and Master's degree in agriculture from the University of Nebraska. He then earned a secondary endorsement in 7-12 administration from Wayne State College. He also has an elementary endorsement from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. He spent 12 years of his teaching career as an ag teacher at West Point High School. Ten years ago he moved to Axtell where he started as a 7-12 principal. He later moved his position to K-12 principal. "Axtell has a population of approximately 700 people. I was looking for a larger school and liked this area of Nebraska and liked the town of Wayne," Hanson said. In his spare time, Hanson enjoyts golfing and pheasant hunting. He also continues to be involved with agriculture, especially raising swine.
