Lubberstedt, Dickey show champions at Laurel Sale

The 12th annual Barbecue and 4-H Calf Judging and Sale was held in Laurel last Tuesday with an estimated crowd of 1,000 attending. The event is sponsored by the Laurel Chamber of Commerce. 4-Hers entered 1,003 calves from Cedar and Dixon counties. Keith Lubberstedt, son of Mr and Mrs. Norman Lubberstedt, Dixon, exhibited the champion steer and Regg Gadeken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gadeken, Laurel, showed the reserve champion.

The champion brought 37 cents, going to the State National Bank, Wayne. The reserve champion brought 33 cents, going to Green Glow Mills, Laurel. The champion heifer was exhibited by Doris Dicky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dickey, Laurel and the reserve heifer was shown by James Burney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Burney, Hartington. The Den, Laurel Cafe, paid 34 cents for the champion while the Hartington Chamber of Commerce paid 32 cents for the reserve heifer.
