Miron V. Jenness, 91, of Wayne, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at the Wakefield Healthcare Center.

Mass Of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time on Friday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to Providence Hospice.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Miron V. Jenness was born May 24, 1933 in rural Cherokee County, Iowa to Arthur and Esther Jenness. The youngest of 10 children, he spent his childhood in the Quimby, Iowa area, graduating from Quimby High School in 1951. After a semester of college at Wayne State College, Miron enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in post WW II France. 

On May 26, 1956 Miron married Louise Fank in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They started their married life in Wayne, while Miron finished his English degree. After graduation they moved to Ida Grove, Iowa where he taught English and drama for five years. In 1963 they returned to Wayne, where they lived until his death. They were blessed with three children: Carl, Vince and Ann. Miron completed his master’s degree in English at Southeast Oklahoma State University in 1969. He taught English for 30 years and drama for six years in the Wayne school system.  Miron enjoyed a 35-year career in education. There are thousands of students from Wayne schools who can say they know how to properly dissect a sentence. 

He was active in the community and his church. He was involved in Boy Scouts, taught CPR, drove the ambulance, played Santa at Christmas and announced football among many other community activities. At St. Mary’s he was a Eucharistic minister, a lector, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and head of the CCD program for many years. 

In retirement, Miron and Louise traveled extensively. They visited 31 U.S. states in their camper including Alaska twice. They traveled to Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Mexico and Russia.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Louise; son, Vince (Cindy) of Crofton; daughter, Ann (Bryan) Ruwe of Wayne; nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine siblings - Elvin, Irma, Wesley, Lola, Chesley, Alma, Alta Mae, Alfred and Leroy and a son, Carl.
