Northeast Nebraska dancer becomes professional cheerleader

Too often, young dancers lose the time or passion to continue on with their dreams after high school.

However, for one dancer from Northeast Nebraska, the next part of her dancing career has only just begun.

Noell Hinsley, granddaughter of Carter “Cap” Peterson of Wayne, has signed on to cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs, winners of the 2023 Super Bowl, this upcoming football season.

Graduating from Grand Canyon University in May of 2023 with a bachelor’s of arts and government, Hinsley will now attend Kansas University for law school.

Hinsley has always had a passion for dancing, keeping up with her dream since she was a child.

"My family has always been my number one supporter when it comes to my dancing," Hinsley said. "I definitely would not be here if it weren't for them."

Hinsley's family, being from the Midwest, has also always held a soaring level of excitement for the Chiefs, she remembered fondly. Her family has not only encouraged her journey, but also attended tryout sessions for support.

Going through two rounds of tryouts before selection, Hinsley feels ready to jump into practices, which will occur twice weekly. She will have to balance learning new moves with the demands of her classes, she said.

To her, the quality of time management comes easily, stemming from her many years of balancing dance with school and work.

For two summers, Hinsley worked for Northeast Nebraska Insurance Agency in Wayne.

"I feel very passionate about dancing and this opportunity has been extremely rewarding," Hinsley said. "I cannot wait to step out on the field for the first time."
