Power Drive team completes successful season

The 2023 Power Drive Championships were held May 6 at the First National Bank of Omaha Call Center in Wayne.

"On a beautiful day for racing, the Blue Devils were prepared to display what they have been working towards all year," said Advisor Tony Cantrell.

Standard class car S107, driven by Braden Adams and Nina Hammer, competed in five events with points being awarded in each event going towards the overall award.  (similar to a track meet)

Honors earned included:

•third place Maneuverability;

•first place Braking;

•first place Design & Construction;

•first place Documentation;

•first place Endurance - completed 135 laps (31 miles) - leading second place by almost 16 miles.

Enough points were received for the S107 to win the Overall award and win the 2023 Standard Class Championship. 

This is the third Standard Class Championship Wayne has won, and the program's 13th Championship in program history.

Exhibition class cars E22, driven by Brett Johnson, and E39, driven by Matthew Kufner-Rodriguez, competed in the endurance rally only. 

Both cars pushed hard throughout the race, being in the top three of all classes of competition.

Car E22 - second place Endurance - completed 138 laps (31.74 miles);

Car E39 - third place Endurance - completed 136 laps (31.28 miles).

All of Wayne's cars placed in the top five of all cars in total miles completed this season.

Car S107 - fifth place - 77.85 total miles;

Car E22 - 3rd place - 93.14 total miles;

Car E39 - 2nd place - 94.08 total miles.
