Thies Family Lockers under new ownership

Posted

Thies Family Lockers was recently sold. The business changed ownership, but the name on the side of the building won't change.

John Thies, who purchased the locker over 22 years ago, sold the business to his son and daughter-in-law, Ethan and Ashley Thies.

The elder Thies said the actual location of the business has been a meat locker for many years and even survived a fire at one point in its history.

He said that his future plans include running the Blue Gable furniture store, which is located just east of the locker.

For Ethan, the change to locker ownership comes after having been involved with construction business for a number of years.

The business is licensed with the state and is required to follow state regulations. It is USDA inspected.

"On average, we process 10 head of livestock per week. We do beef and hogs and will process deer that has been de-boned," Ethan said.

He noted that all meat is cut and processed to customer specifications, including the amount of time an animal is left hanging before being cut and wrapped.

For Ethan and Ashley, plans for the locker include some remodeling, adding more retail options, including meat bundle baskets and other seasonal offerings.

Working with Ethan will be his brother, Jesse.

Purchases can be shipped on dry ice nation-wide.

"We have customers in the immediate area, and in areas such as Norfolk, Clearwater and Neligh. We also ship to places like Virginia and Washington, D.C.," John said.

The business can handle emergencies as long as the animal is ambulatory.

The locker is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Information on the business can be found on Facebook at Thies Family Locker.
