The Wayne Dirt Devils 18-under softball team swept a doubleheader from Dakota Valley on Tuesday at the Wayne Summer Sports Complex, winning 8-0 and 10-4.

In the opener, Ashten Gibson threw a two-hit shutout and struck out eight to earn the win. Wayne scored three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a Kennedy Maly RBI single, then added four more in the third and one in the fourth to get the five-inning win on the eight-run rule.

Wayne had seven hits in the first game, led by Maly's 3-for-3 effort. She had a triple and scored three runs. Jamie Gamble added an RBI double and Danica Schaefer scored two runs.

In the nightcap, the Dirt Devils made the most of their five hits. Gamble and Maly both had doubles to highlight the offensive effort, and Schaefer and Jenna Trenhaile also had hits.

Gibson got her second win of the night, matching her eight-strikeout effort in the first game with eight more punchouts in the nightcap.

The Dirt Devils 18-under team will play in the Golden Girls Invitational this weekend in Norfolk.
