Winside splits triangular, Marotz posts double figure kills in both matches

One final triangular was on the schedule for Winside volleyball early in the week.

Back in Hartington for a second time in three days, Winside joined the host Hartington-Newcastle as well as Tri County Northeast on Tuesday.

Winside recently went 1-2 during the Hartington-Newcastle Invite this past Saturday.

Winside suffered a 2-0 loss against Tri County Northeast (20-25, 15-25) and picked up a 2-0 win over Hartington-Newcastle (25-21, 25-23). The Winside Wildcats are now 10-9 on the season.

In the loss with Tri County Northeast, freshman Bridget Marotz recorded 11 kills, nine digs and one solo block; sophomore Hadleigh Schutt posted 12 assists, eight digs and one kill as junior Jerzi Carlson led the team in digs with 13.

Sophomore Ellie Topp followed with two kills and three digs as sophomore Katelyn Jaeger added one kill and two digs. Other digs came from senior Samantha Gubbels (10), senior Skylar Spann (four) and sophomore Raylyn Behmer (two).

Carlson finished with two service aces as Marotz, Spann and Topp all had an ace.

From the victory over Hartington-Newcastle, Marotz recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs to go along with two blocks (one solo) while Schutt posted 11 assists, six digs, three kills and one block.

Topp added two kills, one dig and one block as Carlson (eight digs/one block) and Jaeger (one dig) both had one kill. Other digs came from Gubbels (eight) and Spann (five).

Topp and Marotz both finished with two service aces as Carlson, Jaeger and Spann all had an ace.

The Winside volleyball team will next visit Stuart on Thursday, Oct. 17. The first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Volleyball Tournament is slated to begin on Saturday, Oct. 19.
