Local women start Red Hat Society chapter

Holding true to the saying, "girls just want to have fun," several ladies from the Wakefield and Concord-Dixon area recently started a Red Hat Society chapter. This national dis-organization has no rules and is devoted to greeting middle age with humor.

Women 50 years and older don purple clothes and red hats and have a good time. Younger women can also join but they must wear lavender clothes, pink hats and are called pink hatters.

Holding the title of Queen Mother, Sue Nelson of Wakefield helped start the local chapter in January when she was turning 50. There are seven ladies in the local group and they meet once a month to go out to lunch and then shop or take in another activity.

One outing they took recently was to come to Wayne to eat at The Coffee Shoppe and then check out the red hats at Swan's Women Apparel.
