As part of Westward Waters, a three-year extensive learning and teaching experience for elementary and secondary teachers made possible through a federal grant, Wayne Elementary fourth grade teachers Peg Lutt and Lori Ruskamp attended a 12-day workshop beginning in Spokane, Wash., July 17-28.

This workshop focused on the influence of American Indians on the Lewis and Clark journey. From there, they worked their way back home first visitng the Lo Lo Trail, then the national Bison Range, Flathead Nation, Indian College at Polson, Mont., a Pow Wow with the Black Feet Indians, Pompey's Pillar (where Clark signed his name on the rock during their trip), Little Big Horn battlefield, Buffalo Dill Museum in Cody, Wyo., Medicine Wheel on top of a mountain, as well as Devil's Tower, also in Wyoming. The workshop helped give the Native American perspective to the western movement.
