Wayne junior high cross country results from Pierce invite, Blue Devil girls win team standings

With varsity runners preparing for conference competition on Thursday in Battle Creek, junior high programs were highlighted on Tuesday.

From the Pierce Community Golf Club, Wayne Junior High joined five other girls teams and six boys teams during the Pierce Junior High Invite.

The Wayne Junior High girls finished first with 33 points while the Blue Devil boys placed fifth with 81 points.

In the girls JH division, Wayne JH edged Crofton JH (33-36), Yankton JH followed in third (42), Battle Creek took fourth (55) and Archangels Catholic rounded out the top five teams with 76 points.

The Wayne Junior High girls were led by eighth grader Tayla Hurner who placed runner-up in a time of 12:38.2, seventh grader Hadley Dunklau followed in sixth (13:42.15) and eighth grader Elizabeth Hix took seventh (13:49.54).

Other results were all seventh graders being Sarah Kuchta (22nd – 14:31.95), Rose Kaup (29th – 14:49.27), Alyssa Bargholz (37th – 15:20.22), Pashynce Owens-Webb (53rd – 16:34.56), Lucy Ocampo (56th – 16:51.21), Chloe Kai (59th – 17:11.89) and Molly Allemann (67th – 17:44.69).

Eighth grader Avery Arens from Crofton won the girls two-mile race in a time of 12:18.57 among the 79 runners.

From the boys JH division, Norfolk Junior High edged Yankton Junior High (29-32), Battle Creek JH took third (54), Norfolk Catholic JH placed fourth (65) and Wayne JH rounded out the top five teams with 81 points.

Seventh grader Benjamin Patefield led the Wayne Junior High boys at 11th in a time of 13:13.66.

Other results came from eighth grader Jacob Fehringer (26th – 13:53.8), eighth grader Daniel Kuchta (35th – 14:20.73), seventh grader Tristen Klinetobe (48th – 15:13.19), eighth grader Quinten Kuester (51st – 15:43.01) and seventh grader Owen Wynia (57th – 16:25.41).

Eighth grader Breckin Jansen from Crofton won the two-mile race in a time of 11:45.76 among the 70 runners.
