Balanced Wolfpack effort nets C-3 district title

HARTINGTON — Tri County Northeast got a balanced team effort and won a close three-team race to claim the C-3 District boys golf title Monday at Hartington Golf Club.

The Wolfpack shot a team score of 352, edging host Hartington Cedar Catholic by three shots for the district title. West Holt earned the third state qualifying spot with a round of 356, finishing nine shots ahead of Ponca for the final team spot.

Leading the charge for the Wolfpack was senior Nathan Oswald, who was the tournament medalist with a round of 78, finishing four shots ahead of Jay Steffen of Hartington Cedar Catholic.

Teammate Ben Jorgensen also made the top 10, finishing third with an 82. Garrett Blanke, a state qualifier as an individual last year, just missed the top 10, finishing one shot off the cut with an 89.

Rounding out the Wolfpack effort was Ryan Anderson with a 103 and Brody Floyd with a 110.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wakefield both brought individual golfers to the district tournament. LCC was led by AIdan Junck with a 98 and Jackson Hall with 108. Wakefield’s Kolton Fischer led the Trojans with a 124, while Jackson Pommer shot 126 and Caleb Chase had a 139.

The Class C state golf tournament will be played at the Elks Country Club in Columbus on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tee time both days is at 9 a.m.
