Following a home weekday series, the Wayne State College softball team took to the road for league play.
From Koehler HOF Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota, WSC visited Northern State on Saturday.
Wayne State College picked up victories of 9-3 and 10-2 to win their fifth straight. WSC improved to 23-12 (8-3 NSIC) as the host Wolves fell to 8-27 (2-12 NSIC).
In the opening game, scoring began in the top of the second for Wayne State College. Freshman Maddie Scobee drove in senior Hayley Murphy.
WSC followed with three more runs in the top of the third to lead 4-0. Sophomore Lillie Timm posted a two-RBI double scoring sophomore Jordyn Klein and sophomore Emilee Marth while redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe doubled in Timm.
Northern State plated their first run an half of an inning later.
Wayne State College added a single run in the top of the fourth. Freshman Leah Chance drove in sophomore Taylor Coleman.
A second three-run inning was posted by Wayne State College in the top of the fifth to lead 8-1. Coleman doubled in Murphy as Klein added a two-RBI base hit scoring redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak and Coleman.
The host Wolves tallied a single run in the home half of the fifth.
The Wildcats scored once more in the top of the sixth when sophomore Haylee Weber drove in Timm.
Northern State was limited to one run in the home half of the seventh.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 9-3 and outhitting Northern State, 14-7. WSC didn’t commit an error compared to one error by the Wolves.
Lillie Timm singled, doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Taylor Coleman singled, doubled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Jordyn Klein singled twice, drove in two runs and scored. Kennadi Borngrebe doubled and drove in a run.
Leah Chance, Haylee Weber and Maddie Scobee all singled and drove in a run; Hayley Murphy singled and scored twice; Emilee Marth singled and scored as Mary Krystofiak scored.
Senior Grace Lucka (pitch count NA) picked up the win in three innings of relief allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out five batters and walking two. Borngrebe worked four innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out six batters, walking two and hitting one.
During the second outing, the visiting Wildcats began scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Coleman first doubled in Chance while Krystofiak added a RBI base hit scoring Timm while Coleman scored on a throwing error during the same play.
WSC added two more runs in the top of the second to lead 5-0. Marth drove in Klein and Coleman recorded a sac-fly scoring Chance.
Northern State answered with two of their own runs a half of an inning later.
Following back-to-back scoreless innings, Wayne State College posted a two-run top of the fifth to go up 7-2. Chance doubled in sophomore Jordyn Rochholz followed by Marth driving in Chance.
The Wildcats tallied one run in the top of the sixth thanks to Rochholz scoring on an error.
WSC closed the game with two more runs in the top of the seventh. Coleman recorded a RBI double scoring Marth as Krystofiak drove in Coleman.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 10-2 and outhitting Northern State, 15-4. WSC didn’t commit an error compared to three errors by the host Wolves.
Taylor Coleman doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; Leah Chance singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times; Emilee Marth singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Mary Krystofiak singled twice and drove in two runs as Jordyn Klein singled twice and scored. Lillie Timm also doubled and scored.
Jordyn Rochholz singled and scored twice as senior Lauren Laudick singled.
Senior Samantha Felt (pitch count NA) picked up the win in five scoreless innings of relief allowing two hits while striking out, walking and hitting one batter each. Coleman started two innings allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out three batters and walking one.
