Dirt Devil 10s Black splits rescheduled doubleheader

After having a June 18 road doubleheader postponed a day due to weather, Dirt Devil 10s Black welcomed in a northeast Nebraska opponent for a mid-week outing.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, Dirt Devil 10s Black hosted West Point White 9U on Wednesday.

Dirt Devil 10s Black (6-24) first won 15-14 to secure their fourth straight victory before falling 11-10.

In the opening game,  the Dirt Devils led 5-4 after the first inning before both teams scored five runs each in the second and third innings. Final favored Dirt Devil 10s Black winning 15-14 and winning the hit department, 4-1.

Lennox Smith and Meleah Larson both singled and scored three runs.

KayLee Nelson singled, drove in a run and scored; Delilah Lueth singled and scored; Caroline Endicott scored three times; Isabella Lawyer scored twice as single runs came from Charli Sears and Bella Brandow.

Two pitchers combined for the win. Brynlee Suhr (70 pitches) worked an inning and two-thirds allowing nine earned runs while striking out five batters, walking nine and hitting three. Lueth (30) didn’t record an out allowing five earned runs off one hit while walking five batters.

During the second outing, West Point White 9U took a 5-3 lead after the first inning. Both teams scored five runs in the second as Dirt Devil 10s Black used a 2-1 advantage in the third. Final favored West Point White 9U winning 11-10 despite being outhit, 7-6.

Lawyer singled twice and scored twice; Smith singled, drove in a run and scored twice while Endicott doubled and scored.

Sears singled and scored twice; Suhr singled and drove in a run; Lueth singled; Bianca Hanson scored twice as Nelson scored.

Smith (15 pitches) suffered the loss in a third of an inning allowing an earned run off three hits while walking two batters. Suhr (39) started the game and worked two-thirds of an inning allowing five earned runs off two hits while striking out two batters, walking four and hitting two. Endicott (20) didn’t record an out allowing five earned runs off one hit while walking two batters and hitting three.
