Drew Miller has been selected to represent Wayne at the 83rd annual session of Cornhusker Boys’ State.

The primary purpose of Boys’ State is to learn about the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. The event will take place June 1-7 on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Drew is sponsored by the American Legion Post 43. Orientation for area Boys’ Staters will be held Sunday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Emerson-Hubbard High School.

Drew will be one of 340 Nebraska boys attending the 2025 Cornhusker Boys’ State Program. There is no Girls’ State delegate from Wayne this year.

Drew is the son of Grant and Audra Miller of Wayne and is a junior at Wayne High School, where he participates in FFA, cross country, basketball, and track.

In addition to being a member of FBLA, FCA, and W-Club, he serves as the vice president of his junior class. He was also selected to serve as an FFA officer for the upcoming school year.

Drew is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where he is active in youth group and on the call committee for an assistant pastor. Drew also plans to travel with the OSLC youth to Nashville, Tennessee on July 6-12 for service learning, worship, and fellowship.

Girls’ and Boys’ State programs are sponsored by the American Legion and are designed to give students first-hand experience to learn about citizenship and government.

During the week-long program, Boys’ State citizens organize their own city, county, and state governments and choose their own elected officials through the election process. They introduce and argue their own bills in a legislature and have an opportunity to participate in the judiciary system.

Morning sessions are set aside for education and government training. In the afternoons, boys choose to participate in either band, chorus, newsletter staff, or sporting events. Throughout the week there will be special lecture sessions with highly respected public servants and community leaders on subjects pertinent to the program, as well as evening sessions with motivational speakers.
