Fair season is gearing up and the Dixon County Fair is the first in the area this year, running Friday, July 5 through Wednesday, July 10.
Activities got underway on Friday, July 5 with entry of all 4-H exhibits in the morning and 4-H Livestock check-in from 5 to 6 p.m.
Eli Alger & the Faster Horses Band and Midnight Rodeo will perform at 6 p.m. and team penning will start at 7 p.m.
On Saturday morning, July 6, the 4-H Horse Show begins at 8:30 a.m.
Also on Saturday will be the Bucket Calf Show.
The flag raising ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. and followed by the presentation of Awards.
The featured entertainment for the evening will be the Demo Derby.
Church services by Concordia Lutheran Church will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 7 and will be followed by the Junior Leader Omelet Feed until 11 a.m.
The Open Class Horse Show also takes place Sunday morning.
The Kiddie Peddle Tractor Pull is set to start at noon and the Open Class Beef Show at 5 p.m.
Barrel racing is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the Faith and Family Night concert with the Zellmer Family, Ryan Stevenson and Rhett Walker begins at 6:30 p.m.
Monday's activities include the 4-H FFA Beef Show at 8 a.m., the 4-H Rabbit Show at 1 p.m. and the 4-H Poultry Show at 3 p.m.
The annual Free Barbecue will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.
Western Iowa Garden Tractor Pullers will be on the fairgrounds at 6 p.m.
A Farmers Pride Breakfast will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9.
Also on Tuesday wil be the 4-H Swine Show, the 4-H Sheep Show, the 4-H Goat Show and the 4-H Cow/Calf Show.
The Northeast Nebraska Tractor Pull with antique tractors will take place beginning at 4 p.m.
The final day of this year's fair, Wednesday, July 10 will include the Elite Showmanship Contest at 9 a.m., the Exhibit Hall Trophy Presentation at 1p.m., the Bonus Auction at 1:30 p.m. and the release of 4-H Exhibits at 3 p.m.
The auction of signs takes palce at 6 p.m. and the Outlaw Tractor Pull is at 7 p.m.
The Love-A-Lop Petting Zoo will be on the grounds throughout the fair as will an antique machinery display and carnival rides.
The event is funded in part by a grant from the Dixon County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
