Five goals for five different Wildcats win home win

Five different players scored goals for Wayne State as the Wildcats recorded a 5-0 win over MSU Moorhead on Parent’s Day Sunday at the WSC Soccer Pitch, marking the first time since 2011 that the Wildcats earned a home weekend sweep.
Freshman Madison Burgard scored with an assist from Hannah Knight to put the Wildcats in front 1-0 in the 36th minute. Wayne State scored again at the 39:17 mark when Knight scored her first goal of the year on a Karlee Hall assist to give the Wildcats a 2-0 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Valerie Hernandez recorded an unassisted goal at the 65:25 mark to make it 3-0. Brooke Buzzell scored her second goal of the weekend and third this season in front of the goal with an assist from Natalie Rech, and freshman Lauren Fleming found the back of the net on an unassisted goal late in the match to close out the scoring.
Wayne State finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots over the Dragons and 11-4 in shots on goal. The Wildcats held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks and were called for two more fouls than MSUM 12-10.
Reserves Lauren Fleming and Hannah Knight led Wayne State with three shots apiece in the win. Goalkeeper Kylie Comba played just over 76 minutes and had three saves, while freshman Rachel Grisham notched 13:33 in goal and was credited with one save.
The Wildcats, 6-2-2 (3-2-2 NSIC), will be on the road Friday, visiting Minnesota State in a 1 p.m. matchup.
