Local residents can keep up-to-date on air quality with new free website

Anyone can get up-to date, free readings on air quality in this area (or around the world) by going to:

1) explore.openaq.org

2) On search panel on upper left side, type “Wayne, Nebraska” and choose our fair city from dropdown menu.

3) Click on the purple dot to bring up basic info on the sidebar on right side of page.

4) Within above sidebar, click on “Show Details” to go to a page that shows a “Latest Readings and Patterns” graph.

OpenAQ is a nonprofit that aggregates air quality monitoring data from around the world. NOTE: It provides data on actual particle pollution measurements, whereas the Air Quality Index just generalizes air quality measurements. (PM= Particulate Matter) The  U.S. EPA considers PM2.5 levels above 9.0 micrograms per cubic meter unsafe. The World Health Org sets  PM2.5 levels above 5.0 micrograms per cubic meter as unsafe.

While air quality in our area is generally good, wildfire smoke from afar, as well as any burning and other air pollutants can impact residents’ health, particularly those already at risk.

Having this scientific air quality instrument, donated to the Wayne Green Team, by OpenAQ.org, is a real benefit to our city in providing free readings to anyone concerned about air quality. It could also be used by students in relevant science projects.
