The Blue Devil Power Drive team traveled to I29 Speedway in Pacific Junction, Iowa on April 26 to compete at the third event of the 2025 season.
Weather conditions were perfect for racing at the fastest track on the schedule at the 1.4 mile road course.
Car A107, driven by Allan Brenner and Wyatt Hawkins, started off the rally in second place setting a comfortable pace. Shortly before the halfway point, A107 took the lead in Advanced class and began to pull away from the rest of the field. Following the lead change, the pit crew pulled off the fastest pit stop of the day to change drivers and the A107 was back on the track to extend its lead.
A107 finished the race in first place with 17 laps and a 5.6 mile lead over second place.
In Exhibition class, Car E39, driven by Josh Doring, and Car E22, driven by Mason Blickenstaff, started the race in first and third place respectively. By the 15 minute mark both cars had fallen to third and fourth, but maintained similar lap times to the leaders.
At the 20 minute mark, the E22 pushed up to second from fourth place while the E39 maintained third place. Shortly after a battle between the E22 and E39 began as they traded positions multiple times while maintaining the distance from the leader.
At the 35 minute mark both cars entered the first and second position while continuing to trade places while pulling away from the competition. On a last lap pass the E39 took the lead and the checkered flag with 22 laps, while the E22 came in second with 21 laps and a 7 lap (9.8 mile) lead over third place.
"Wayne's three cars were the only cars not in the pits for mechanical issues today. Preparations throughout the week back at the shop kept all of the cars on the track," said Coach Tony Cantrell.
Next for Wayne is the 2025 Power Drive Championships in Wayne at the FNBO Call Center on East 10th Street on Saturday, May 3. Preliminary events start at 10 a.m. and racing starts at 1 p.m. Car A107 will be defending its back-to-back State Title, while E39 and E22 will be competing for the highest season total mileage award.
Admission is free, and a concession stand will be available.
