Two WSC athletes receive all conference second team honors

As the NSIC Tournament continues this weekend in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the league office out of Burnsville, Minnesota announced All-Conference standouts with two from Wayne State College on the list.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, freshman forward Matt Noll was named to the 2024-25 NSIC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team while senior guard/forward Maya Fitzpatrick was named to the 2024-25 NSIC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team. Both earned Second Team honors.

A 6-7 forward for the Wildcats, Noll was the leading scorer this season for Wayne State averaging 13.0 points overall and 13.3 points per game in NSIC games. He had 21 games scoring double figures this season with five games of 20 or more points highlighted by a season-high 32 points at Minot State on February 22.

The Sioux City Bishop Heelan Catholic High School (IA) graduate shot 53.5 percent from the field, ranking fourth in the NSIC, and he tied for 13th in the league in blocked shots per game (0.8). He played in all 29 games for the Wildcats with 28 starts as a freshman.

In NSIC games, Noll averaged a team-leading 13.3 points with 4.4 rebounds per game scoring double figures in 16 of 22 league contests. He shot 52.3 percent from the field in league play and scored double figures in 10 straight games during league play (December 14-January 25).

The Wayne State College men finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 16-13 overall and finished 10th in the NSIC with a 10-12 league mark. On Wednesday, #10 WSC ended their season with a 63-59 loss at #7 Winona State University during the first round of the NSIC Tournament in Winona, Minnesota.

It was the fifth straight overall winning season for Wildcat men’s basketball.

Fitzpatrick, a 5-10 senior guard/forward from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota (Champlin Park HS), led the Wildcats in scoring this season averaging 13.3 points per contest, ranking 12th in the NSIC. She also averaged 4.7 rebounds per outing and ranked sixth in the league in minutes played per game (32.6), tied for seventh in steals (1.9) and blocks (1.1) per game and was 15th in the NSIC in assists per contest (2.5).

Fitzpatrick scored double figures in 17 games this season and had six games of 20 or more points. She had three straight games in early January score 20 or more points, highlighted by a career-high 28 points in an 87-82 win over Northern State on January 10. Fitzpatrick also recorded 22 points in a 71-64 win at Bemidji State January 3 and produced 21 points in a 67-57 victory over Nebraska-Kearney November 20.

In NSIC games, Fitzpatrick averaged a team-high 13.8 points with 4.5 rebounds per game while starting all 22 league games recording double figures in 15 contests.

Fitzpatrick ended her Wildcat career ranking second in steals with 210, one of just two players in school history to record 200 or more career steals. She just missed reaching the 1,000-point mark scoring 963 points in a Wildcat uniform.

The Wayne State College women finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 11-16 overall and took 10th place in the NSIC with an 8-14 league record. On Wednesday, #10 WSC ended their season following a 57-50 loss at #7 MSU Moorhead during the first round of the NSIC Tournament in Moorhead, Minnesota.
