Wayne bowling collects four wins, varsity girls post second highest all-class pinfall score

Following a home holiday tournament last weekend, the Wayne High girls and boys bowling teams traveled to central Nebraska during a weekday outing.

From the Big Apple Bowling Center in Kearney, the Blue Devil bowlers competed against the host Kearney.

The Wayne High girls won 20-1 over Kearney and during their second game score of 977 tied a Wayne school record and is now the second-best in Nebraska over the past five years.

The Blue Devil boys also won 20-1 against Kearney.

Head Wayne bowling coach Josh Johnson said, “I was not sure what to expect today (Thursday) with us having a few hiccups to start our day (weather and bus issues) but the Blue Devils bowled well. I was extremely happy with the effort and energy they all gave us. The girls played lights out today (Thursday) and it was fun watching them go for the school record. The best moment today (Thursday) was the bonding and fun all the bowlers had all day long.”

In the girls division, Wayne would get out to a hot start early and continue with the pressure throughout game one on the host Kearney. Wayne would play a consistent game and win the pinfall total 823-536. Winning matches for the Blue Devil girls in game one were Madi Janke (143), Regan Fernau (140), Sammi Gubbels (191) and Graycen Trautman (210). Other scorer in game one was Lindsay Niemann (139). Wayne would jump out quickly in game two and keep the pressure on Kearney all game.  The Blue Devils really got hot, led by Sammi Gubbels six strikes in a row to start game two. Wayne would win the pinfall match 977-561. All five girls would win individual matches in game two.  Winners included Madi Janke / Rylin Hall (164), Regan Fernau / McKaeya Becker (146), Sammi Gubbels (246), Graycen Trautman (223) and Lindsay Niemann (198).

Again, Wayne would win the Baker game 200-102 and the overall match total 20-1.

During the boys division, both teams would struggle with the oil pattern. The two teams would battle back and forth through the early frames. Wayne would pull away with just enough spares and strikes to win the pinfall match 889-675. Winning individual matches for the Blue Devils were Jamison Meyer (189), Ben Haschke (156), Konnor Kai / Alex Rodriguez (215) and Aiden Petersen (199).  Dylan Jensen / Jaden Dramse also contributed with a score of 130.

Game two found the Blue Devils getting out quicker but still struggling to get multiple strikes together. Spares and survival became the name of the game. Wayne would bowl well enough to win the pinfall match 957-732. Winning individual matches in game two were Jaden Dramse (172), Jamison Meyer / Ben Haschke (154), Alex Rodriguez (190), Konnor Kai / Dylan Jensen (195) and Aiden Petersen (246).

Wayne would have a 15-1 lead after the individual matches. The Blue Devils put together a solid Baker game and would win the game 211-158. Again, the Wayne boys would go on to defeat Kearney 20-1.

The Wayne JV girls got off to a sluggish start but would battle. The two teams struggled to find consistent spares and strikes. Wayne struggled to find a groove and would lose game one 457-440. Lilillana Culy (83) and Madi Korth (109) would win matches in game one. Other scorers were Rylee Durant (94), and Marie Allemann (83).

Game two had the Wayne girls finding a bit of a more consistent line. Wayne would win the total pinfall match 510-494. Winning matches in game two were Lilliana Culy (80), Madi Korth (111) and Marie Allemann (151). Another scorer was Rylee Durant (84).

With the score tied 8-8, it came down to the Baker games to decide the victory.  Wayne would come out in the Baker games and would battle hard . Wayne would win their Baker style matches 92-82 and 121-117.

During the boys JV competition, Wayne would get out to a steady start. Both teams would battle hard throughout the game but it was Wayne who would win the pinfall match 711-659. Individual match winners in game one included Brodrick Tietdke (124), Blake Smith (205) and Zane Sievers (159).

Game two, the Blue Devils struggled a bit to find the line. Wayne would go on to lose the pinfall match 660-643. Winning matches in game two were Blake Smith (182) and Zane Sievers (158).  Other scorers included Tyler Johnson (87), Carlyle Young (118) and Brodrick Tietdke (98).

The match was thus tied 8-8 going into the Baker games. In the Baker games the two teams would go back and forth throughout the three games.  Wayne would win game one 145-138 but lose game two 154-119. The entire match would come down to game three. Wayne would pick up enough spares in game three to win the match 140-114. With the Baker victory, the Blue Devils would close off the win 13-8.
