Two more swim meets are in the books for the Wayne Dolphins along with a third Swimmer of the Week named by coach Jaden Todd.
Wayne Dolphins compete at Wahoo Invite
It was a late night for the Wayne Dolphin swim team with the Wahoo Invite starting at 6 p.m. on July 1.
From the Wahoo Aquatic Center, 49 athletes made up the Wayne Dolphins. *Team scores were not posted at the deadline for this week's edition of the Wayne Herald.
Other competing teams with Wayne Dolphins and the host Wahoo Otters were Tekamah-Tigers Sharks, North Bend Sharks, Blair Swim, Hartington, Arlington Pool S, Dodge Sea Monkey and Fremont.
Lennox Smith (girls 9 - 10) and Ryker Heithold (boys 11 - 12) were the top point-scorers according to Wayne Dolphin swim coach Jaden Todd.
Lennox Smith won the 25-yard butterfly (21.4) and 25-yard backstroke (21.03) while taking second in the 100-yard individual medley (1:59.25) and the 25-yard freestyle (19.03).
She also was on two mixed relay teams led by a fifth place 100-yard freestyle with Elizabeth Kuchta, Reed Risinger and Maximillian Ronhovde in 1:38.59 as well as the seventh place 100-yard medley performing the butterfly with Reed Risinger (backstroke), Elizabeth Kuchta (breaststroke) and Maximillian Ronhovde (freestyle) during a time of 2:03.
Ryker Heithold won the 50-yard freestyle (38.37), took second in the 50-yard breaststroke (58.29) and third in both the 100-yard individual medley (1:52.36) and 50-yard butterfly (46.95).
He also was on two runner-up mixed relays being the 200-medley performing the butterfly with Kate Patefield (backstroke), Elladee Ronhovde (breaststroke) and Liberty Swinton (freestyle) in 3:02.5 as well as the 200-yard freestyle with Kate Patefield, Liberty Swinton and Elladee Ronhovde during a time of 2:35.
Upcoming Wayne Dolphin Swim team meets include Hartington (July 7), Blair (July 9) and ending with conference in West Point (July 13).
Wayne Dolphins win again in West Point
Wayne Dolphin members moved past the halfway point of their season following a second trip to West Point on June 28.
From the West Point #2 Invite, the Wayne Dolphins were represented with 37 athletes combining for the team win scoring 409 points.
Hartington (25 athletes) followed in runner-up with 296 points as West Point Dolphins (22 athletes) took third with 261 points.
In the girls division, Emily Gilliland stole the show to lead the Wayne Dolphins with 42 points followed by Clara Ankeny with 35 points.
Emily Gilliland (13 - 14 girls) won the 100m individual medley (1:20.99) and 50m freestyle (31.54) along with runner-up times during the 50m butterfly (36.07) and 50m breaststroke (43.03).
She was also on the winning mixed relays during the 200m medley performing the freestyle along with Kendall Klein (backstroke), Benjamin Patefield (breaststroke) and Alyssa Bargholz (butterfly) in 2:37.73 as well as the 200m freestyle along with Bargholz, Penelope Zavada-Cupp and Alex Ziska during a first place time of 2:20.06.
Clara Ankeny (women's 15 - 18) won the 50m freestyle (33.43), took second in both the 100m individual medley (1:28.16) and 50m breaststroke (44.75) as well as a third place time in the 50m butterfly (38.69).
She was also on runner-up mixed relays during the 200m medley performing the breaststroke along with Hallie Heithold (backstroke), Elsie Gilliland (butterfly) and Colton Sebade (freestyle) in 2:36.03 along with the 200m freestyle second place team along with Hallie Heithold, Dean Young and Haley Brogren in a time of 2:19.5.
During the boys division, Ryker Heithold led the Wayne Dolphins with 32 points along with Dean Young totaling 20.5 points.
Ryker Heithold (boys 11 - 12) took runner-up in the 100m individual medley (1:50.52), 50m butterfly (46.25) and 50m freestyle (39.96) along with a third place time in the 50m breaststroke (59.31).
He also was on the mixed relays during the 200m medley performing the freestyle along with Kaylee Parker (backstroke), Henry Craig (breaststroke) and Liberty Swinton (butterfly) during a runner-up finish in 3:16.71 and the 200m freestyle along with Abbey Kowalewski, Liberty Swinton and Kaylee Parker during a fourth place time in 3:03.77.
Dean Young (men's 15 - 18) captured runner-up in the 50m butterfly (39.71), third in both the 100m individual medley (1:34.83) and 50m backstroke (41.52) as well as a fourth place time during the 50m freestyle (34.43).
He was also on the runner-up mixed 200m freestyle relay along with Hallie Heithold, Haley Brogren and Clara Ankeny during a time of 2:19.5.
The Wayne Dolphins also began the month of July on Tuesday at the Wahoo Invite (story recap in this week's edition of the Wayne Herald).

Haley Brogren named Wayne Dolphins Swimmer of the Week
Following event number five on the season for the Wayne Dolphins, a third 'Swimmer of the Week' was awarded by coach Jaden Todd.
A single invite was held on June 28 for the Wayne Dolphins in West Point.
Haley Brogren (15 - 18 girls) totaled 14.5 points to help the Wayne Dolphins win the West Point #2 Invite scoring 409 combined points.
Coach Todd said, "even though Haley is aging out of the Wayne Dolphin swim team after this season, she swam like she had nothing to lose at West Point this past weekend. Haley's breaststroke race was amazing, outreaching her opponents and getting first place. Great work Haley and we’re going to miss you on the team next year.”
Brogren won the 50m breaststroke (44.32), took fifth in both the 50m butterfly (41.00) and 50m backstroke (50.44) and didn't place in the 50m freestyle in a time of 39.52. She also was on the runner-up mixed 200m freestyle relay along with Hallie Heithold, Dean Young and Clara Ankeny finishing 2:19.5.
The Wayne Dolphins started a new month on Tuesday, July 1 at the Wahoo Invite.
