Wayne girls win Lincoln Lutheran invite, boys finish runner-up behind host team

For a second time this week Wayne High cross country runners were in action.

From Pioneer Park in Lincoln, the Blue Devils competed in the Lincoln Lutheran Invite on Thursday.

The Wayne High girls won their division with 41 points while the Blue Devil boys placed runner-up with 40 points.

Behind Wayne’s 41 points, Omaha Concordia followed in runner-up with 54 points, Tri County took third (57) and Yutan and Louisville both tied for fourth with 59 points.

The Wayne High girls were led by fourth place medalist junior Lilyan Hurner in a time of 22:34.15. Senior Olivia Hanson followed in 12th (23:57.26) as junior Josie Ley took 14th (24:25.32).

Other Blue Devil results came from junior Kennasyn Blecke (18th – 24:41.28), senior Norah Armstrong (19th – 24:46.60) and sophomore Essynce Owens-Webb (23rd – 24:55.91).

Freshman Sage Holtmeier from Tri County won the Lincoln Lutheran Invite in a time of 21:08.13 among the 45 runners on the 3,000-meter course.

In JV action, senior Yama Kantai finished first in a time of 23:19.28 among the 29 runners as freshman Hannah Brogren placed 11th (26:30.3). Sophomore Anna Naeve also finished 25th (31:33.18).

Lincoln Lutheran won the boys division with 30 points, Wayne followed in runner-up with (40) points, Tri County took third (45), Omaha Concordia placed fourth (53) and Cornerstone Christian rounded out the top five teams with 81 points.

The Wayne High boys were led by a trio of top 10 finishes from senior Gavin Redden in fifth (18:05.46), followed closely by junior Drew Miller in sixth (18:06.18) as sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez took 10th (18:39.38).

Other Blue Devil results came from senior Kasen York (20th – 19:18.83), sophomore Landen Claussen (22nd – 19:30.15) and sophomore Camden Hall (31st – 19:53.89).

Sophomore Sammy Holsing  from Tri County won the Lincoln Lutheran Invite in a time of 17:24.3 among the 64 runners on the 3,000-meter course.

In JV action, the Wayne boys finished third as a junior varsity team with 41 points. Lincoln Pius X JV won with 20 points.

Wayne JV was led by a runner-up finish from junior Boden Dobbins (19:48.16) along with sophomore Lance Brink (11th – 21:00.61) and freshman Grady Maas (15th – 21:37.65).

Other JV results came from sophomore Ben Haschke (17th – 21:50.04), freshman Ethan Samuelson (40th – 24:27.11), freshman Hudson Rubendall (41st – 24:32.61), sophomore Cale Eischeid (44th – 24:35.32), sophomore Julian Garcia Morales (45th – 24:38.96) as sophomore Gabriel Armstrong did not finish.

The Wayne High girls and boys cross country team will next prepare for the Mid State Conference race on Thursday, Oct. 10. Battle Creek will be the host team from the Evergreen Hill Golf course.
