Wayne represented well amongst top area track and field competitors

A mini-state meet was put on with the best-of-the best competing from northeast Nebraska on May 1.

From Johnny Carson Field, the 31st Norfolk Track & Field Classic showcased several area members who will be competing in less than a month at Burke.

Wayne High saw 10 events in action.

The Blue Devil girls were led by a fourth place medal from freshman Alivia Kesting during the 800-meter run (2:27.73) while junior Nyla Bolles followed in seventh (2:32.4).

Junior Ellie Powicki placed fifth during the 100-meter hurdles (15.67), sophomore Addison Frank took eighth in the pole vault (9′) and junior Lilyan Hurner finished ninth during the 3200-meter run (13:19.21).

The 4×400-meter relay team of Bolles, freshman Kamden Dobbins, Powicki and Kesting placed seventh (4:20.82).

During the boys competition, Wayne High was led by a silver medal from junior Grant Maas in the pole vault (13′ 6″) followed by a bronze from senior Kasen York during the 800-meter run (2:05.52).

Junior Drew Miller also took seventh in the 3200-meter run (10:50.43).

The 4×800-meter relay of Miller, sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez, sophomore Thomas Raymundo Bacillio and York placed seventh (9:03.27).

Wakefield competed in seven entries.

In the girls division, sophomore Boston Brown placed fourth in the triple jump (36′ 2″) and seventh during the 300-meter hurdles (48.73).

The Wakefield boys were led by junior Cael Johnson with a silver medal during the 300-meter hurdles (40.23) and bronze in the 110-meter hurdles (15.38).

Senior Jesse Lundahl took fifth in the discus (156′ 2″).

The Wakefield 4×100-meter relay of junior Jacob Borg, Johnson, junior Brandon Parades and junior Mason Lamprecht took fifth (45.2) as the 4×400-meter relay of Lundahl, Borg, Lamprecht and Jonson finished sixth (3:36.35).

A trio of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls entries were in action being led by a bronze medal from senior Tali Erwin during the high jump (5′). Sophomore Carlie Kvols took fifth in the 800-meter run (2:31.25) and junior Kate Tasler finished seventh during the 1600-meter run (5:50.51).

Winside’s lone qualifier during the Norfolk Track Classic was junior Caleb Offner who recorded a fifth place medal during the boys shot put (49′ 10″).
