Why are blood donors important?

Posted

Blood donors save lives - each donation can help up to three hospital patients in their critical time of need.

There is no substitute for your donation - each and every time you give you make a difference.

More than 3,000 units of blood are needed each week to meet the needs of our hospital patients.

Nine out of ten people who live to the age of 70 will use blood during their lifetime, yet less than five percent of the eligible population donates blood.

In the United States, blood products that are transfused to hospital patients must be from an unpaid volunteer blood donor.

There are many ways to get involved in the blood donation cause!

It isn’t just blood donors who help ensure the community blood supply is strong and stable. From blood drive chairpeople to volunteers, LifeServe Blood Center relies on the generous dedication of people looking to make a difference in our neighborhood.

The strength of the community blood supply is dependent on local donors, businesses, and organizations that donate and sponsor blood drives with LifeServe Blood Center.

LifeServe Blood Center held a blood drive in Wayne on July 31. A total of 32 donors registered to donate and 38 units of life saving blood were collected.

"Thank you to every donor who participated in the drive and helped to boost the LOCAL blood supply. The units donated at the blood drive can help save up to 114 lives," said

The following donors hit milestones with their most recent donation:

Dwain Stanley: nine gallons;     and

Maxine Schwanke: 18 gallons.

"Special thanks to the City of Wayne for coordinating the blood drive.  Additional gratitude to the Wayne Fire & Rescue Team for the use of the site. We could not help patients in our 175+ hospitals, without communities like Wayne and your amazing volunteers and donors," said Kim Jensen Dietrich

LifeServe Blood Center  Territory Representative.

The next blood drive in Wayne will be the Katelyn VanHorn Scholarship Blood Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at the Wayne Fire Hall.

"Thanks to everyone who came out to show their support. Be sure to text ‘LIFESERVE’ to 999-777 to make your next appointment and we look forward to seeing you next time!" Jensen Dietrich said.
