Members with the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country program competed in-state over the weekend.
From Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, WSC competed in the UNL Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, September 21.
The Wayne State College women finished 14th out of 16 teams with 367 points while the WSC men placed 15th with 392 points.
In the women’s division, St. Mary of Kansas edged Nebraska-Kearney 48-49 to win the team title. Sonoma State of California was third at 96 points with Iowa Central CC (112) and Kansas Wesleyan (141) filling out the top five teams.
Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, a freshman from Sequim, Washington, was the first Wildcat runner to cross the finish line taking 57th overall from a field of 185 runners in a time of 20:11.99 on the 5,000-meter course.
Another freshman, Allie Czapla, was next in 87th place at 21:05.41. Junior Madeline Kunz followed in 105th place at 21:27.59 with sophomore Callie Kirchner close behind in 109th place with a time of 21:33.61.
Other Wildcat finishers were Jozlyn Barnes (129th – 22:20.67), Nikola Prochazkova (140th – 22:10.97), Madi McKie (143rd – 22:40.68), Maelee Beacom (150th – 23:09.34) and Taylor Thorp (160th – 23;53.95).
During the men’s division, Iowa Western Community College easily won the team title with 33 points followed by Nebraska-Kearney in second with 95 points. St. Mary of Kansas (104), Missouri Western (144) and Doane (158) filled out the top five teams.
Quentin Dreyer, a junior from Manning, Iowa, led the Wildcat men with a time of 26:39.80 to place 41st overall out of 294 runners on the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore Brady Franzen followed in a time of 27:48.07 to finish 89th.
Junior Brody Lucas crossed the line in 101st place with a time of 28:07.03, freshman Ethan Walters was 124th at 28:32.36, senior Brandon Mitzel came in 131st place in 28:35.95 and freshman William Keller took 162nd place in 29:20.85.
Other Wildcat finishers included Andrew Wyllie (165th – 29:27.48), Gannon Walsh (185th – 30:10.62), Akron Jostand (226th – 31:50.11) and Simeon Weers (253rd – 34:06.24).
