The Wayne State softball team stayed in second place in the NSIC after a doubleheader split Saturday at Minnesota Duluth.
In the opener, Wayne State rallied with three in the fifth and two in the sixth to claim a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs.
In the fifth, Morgan Hoeg and Katelyn Wobken both had RBI singles, and Caitlin Fehringer singled and scored on a wild pitch to give the Wildcats a 4-2 advantage. They would add two more in the sixth on an RBI single by Alyssa Schropp and an RBI double by Fehringer to go on to the win.
Cassy Miller got the win in the circle with six solid innings, striking out seven and allowing five hits and two walks. Fehringer, Schropp and Melanie Alyea each had two hits to lead a nine-hit attack.
in the nightcap, Duluth scored four runs in the second inning and went on to get the win and salvage the split. Wayne State's lone run came in the first when Lexie Loos reached on a bunt single and scored on Emily Chandler's RBI single.
Chandler had two of Wayne State's six hits in the loss. Shelby Wobken took the loss in the circle.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play St. Cloud State on Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader in St. Cloud, Minn.
