Wildcats compete in Mankato

Ahead of a final tune-up, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field program sent team members to a Wednesday, April 30 meet.

From Mankato, Minnesota, WSC competed at the Maverick Open #1.

During the women’s division, senior throwers Hailey Baker and Reilly Young each posted NCAA provisional marks.

Young unleashed a personal-best of 171’to take first place in the discus. The throw was an NCAA provisional mark and now sits at the third-best mark this season in NCAA Division II. Torrance Tso was second in the event with a top toss of 156’ 6”.

Baker was the top Wildcat finisher in the hammer throw producing a mark of 181’ 2” to place second while hitting an NCAA provisional mark. Olivia Schwarzrock was fourth in the event at 168’ 3”, McKenna Markle took seventh (160’ 6”) and Jalecia Williams was eighth at 158’ 3”.

Schwarzrock also had a sixth-place finish in the shot put at 43’ 2 ½”.

In men’s action, Santon freshman Mitchell Hupp posted an event win in the 200-meter dash taking first with a time of 20.92 seconds followed by teammate Wyatt Nissen next in second at 21.48 seconds.

Sophomore Jaxson Ninete also recorded an event victory taking first in the hammer throw at 191’ 1”.  Freshman Samuel Zazueta posted an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw taking third at 187’ 7” while Jake Peitz was fifth following a top mark of 180’ 5”.

In field events, sophomore Elliott Nottlemann had a personal-best mark of 23’ 2 ½” in the long jump to finish third while freshman Nate Decker was fifth at 21’ 11”.

In the discus, Norfolk junior Daylin Mallory produced an NCAA provisional mark in the discus at 166’ 5” while Ninete finished seventh at 147’ 2”.
