Wildcats lands 42 new recruits, 2025 season opener is August 28 vs. UNK

After recognizing a class of 17 seniors this past fall, the Wayne State College football coaching staff has been busy at work in search for the class of 2025.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, head football coach Logan Masters announced the signing of 42 student-athletes on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day.

In total, 38 are high school signees with four transfer athletes who signed their letter of intent and will continue their academic and athletic careers at Wayne State College.

Coach Masters said, “we are very excited to announce our 2025 recruiting class. I am very proud of the work out staff did great identifying student athletes that fit Wayne State College and building relationships with these young men. Also, I would like to thank the WSC administration, admissions and professors for investing in the future of our program.”

Also, WSC signed 25 athletes from Nebraska and nine from Iowa with other states including South Dakota, Texas, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Florida.

Masters also added, “we needed to add depth at the defensive line and wide receiver’s positions. We feel we that in this class as well as brining in guys that can come in and create competition with our current roster. We are very excited and looking forward to getting these guys her for fall camp.”

Among the Nebraska signees from the area include Jaymison Cattau (wide receiver/long snapper) from Cedar Catholic; Max Hammond (wide receiver/kicker) from Norfolk Catholic and Braylon Anderson (quarterback) from Oakland-Craig.

Wayne State College is coming off a 7-4 (6-4 NSIC) record.

The 2025 season will open on Aug. 28 as WSC and UNK have renewed their rivalry with a two-year home-and-home series. The Wildcats will first host Nebraska-Kearney from Bob Cunningham Field next fall at 6 p.m. while the Lopers will entertain Wayne State College on Aug. 27, 2026 at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field in Kearney at 7 p.m. This will mark the first meeting between the two DII programs since 2011.
