Wildcats leave Florida with 4-0 record with season opener

Preseason play began Thursday evening for the Wayne State College volleyball team.

From the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, #4 WSC started their season with match one of the Eckerd College Invite against Adelphi (NY).

The Wildcats secured a 3-0 sweep with scores of the match being 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 to begin their year at 1-0.

Channatee Robles recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs followed by Taya Beller (.500) with 10 kills, four digs and two blocks. Molly Romano finished with 32 assists, two kills, four digs and a block as Brooke Peltz led WSC with 17 digs.

Maggie Brahmer (.467) added seven kills, four blocks (one solo) and a dig; Brooklyn Kusler had five kills and two blocks; Allie Petry tallied nine digs and one kill as Taylor Bunjer tacked on one kill, one block and one dig. Other digs came from Rhianna Wilhelm (six) and Jordie Nekl (one) as Laney Kathol had a block.

Peltz posted a team-high three services aces, followed by Wilhelm with two as Robles and Nekl both had an ace.

WSC held advantages in points (51-37), kills (38-31), aces (7-1), blocks (6-5), assists (33-30) and digs (54-43).

Wayne State College finished the match with a .295 attack percentage compared to a .157 from Adelphi.

#4 Wayne State College was right back to work during an early morning match during the Eckerd College Invite.

Back at the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, WSC took on Emory & Henry University (VA) Friday morning.

Scores of the match favored Wayne State College 25-13, 25-10, 25-19. The Wildcats are now 2-0 on the season.

Taya Beller (.579) led the attack with 12 kills, three digs and two blocks (one solo) followed by Channatee Robles (.455) with 11 kills, four digs and two blocks. Molly Romano finished with 34 assists, three digs, two kills and a block as Brooke Peltz led WSC in digs with 11.

Maggie Brahmer (.538) added nine kills, four blocks and a dig; Brooklyn Kusler tallied four kills, four digs and a solo block; Ava Spies tacked on two kills as Laney Kathol (one dig), Ella Myler and Chloe Hanel all had a kill.

Other digs came from Rhianna Wilhelm (five ), Allie Petry (three ) as Taylor Bunjer (two blocks), Anna Borner and Kaelyn Andersen all had one dig.

Peltz led the ace department with three, followed by Romano and Kusler with two each as Robles and Andersen both had an ace.

WSC outhit Emory & Henry University, .348 to .073.

The Wildcats held advantages in points (59-30), kills (43-22), aces (9-1), assists (39-21) and digs (38-29) while both teams had seven blocks.

A third match in two days showed continued progress for #4 Wayne State College thanks to a third straight sweep.

From the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, WSC took on Saint Leo of Florida Friday late afternoon.

WSC improved to 3-0 thanks to scores of the match being 25-16, 25-9, 25-15.

Maggie Brahmer posted a team-high 11 kills on .526 and a block while Taya Beller added 10 kills (.529), four digs and four blocks. Molly Romano finished with 33 assists, seven digs and two blocks as Brook Peltz was dominant in the dig department with 21.

Brooklyn Kusler added nine kills, three digs and two blocks; Channatee Robles tacked on five kills, seven digs and one block; Taylor Bunjer tallied four kills and a dig as Ella Myler totaled one kill. Other digs came from Allie Petry (three), Jordie Nekl (three) and Anna Borner (one).

Services aces came from Romano, Robles, Beller, Kusler and Peltz.

Wayne State College outhit Saint Leo, .340 to .009.

WSC held an advantage in points (50-30), kills (40-26), aces and blocks (both 5-2) and assists (34-26) as both teams finished with 50 digs.

#4 Wayne State College competed in their fourth match over a three-day period during a preseason tournament.

From the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, WSC closed out the Eckerd College Invite over the weekend.

After dropping their first set of the season, the Wildcats secured a four-set win over the host Eckerd to improve to 4-0 on Saturday.

Scores of the match favored WSC 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22.

Earlier in the tournament, WSC swept Adelphi University (NY) on Sept. 5 and also swept both Emory & Henry College (VA) and Saint Leo University (FL) on Sept. 6.

Molly Romano posted a double-double with 43 assists and 13 digs to go along with three blocks during the victory over Eckerd.

Double figure kills came from Taya Beller with 17 kills, eight digs and four blocks; Maggie Brahmer (.421) added 11 kills and three blocks as Channattee Robles followed with 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks.

Brooke Peltz led the Wildcats with 25 digs.

Brooklyn Kusler tallied seven kills, four digs and a solo block as Taylor Bunjer tacked on three kills, four digs and two blocks. Other digs came from Allie Petry and Jordie Nekl (nine each).

  Kusler recorded a team-high four aces as Peltz, Nekl and Romano all had an ace.

Wayne State College outhit Eckerd, .178 to .154. WSC also held advantages in points (63-62), aces (7-4) and digs (79-77) while both teams recorded eight blocks.
